1. 龐大數目的說法: 為避免繞口,可以使用兩個簡便的方法.
                                  第一種是當詳細數目不是很重要時,可以使用整數來表達,例如
                                  2093002可以用二百萬 two million表達
                                  第二種是以最大的 單位做基準,用小數點的方式來表達.例如
                                  5400000000,five-billion four-hundred million用小數點表達成five-point-four billion

2. 小數點和百分比的說法: 表達資料時,可以採用小數點(decimal)和百分比(percentage)的方式,因                                                 為這樣聽者比較容易掌握.

3. 分數與比例的說法: 有時用分數和比例來表達資料反而較百分比易懂.
    分數的說法是: 分子以數目表示,分母則以序數表示; 分子若大於1,分母則須加s,例如:
    1/2念成 one second或 one half
    2/3念成 two-thirds
    3/4念成three-quarters
    關於複雜的分數,例如 123/456 念成 a (one) hundred twenty-three over four hundred fifty six

    說到比例時,若是要表達某個數目中的多少個,有兩種表達方式: out of 或 in, 例如簡報中的five out of eight ( 5:8 ), 或 one in three ( 1:3 ), 而若單純強調幾比幾,則經常用 to

      Most of hair styling salons are full-service shops that have a regular customer base. Taken as a group, the salons have moderate buying power when it comes to beauty products. The money they spend makes up 13.5% of the total yearly sales for the industry.

      And the size of this market? Twenty million people spent five-point four billion U.S. dollars on beauty products last year or two hundred and fifty dollars per capita. One half of the total was spent by people between the ages of nineteen and thirty-five. The last and most surprising statistic shows that teenagers spend the highest per capita total-at three-hundred twenty-three dollars, this is one-point-three time the total of the young adult market.

      那麼這個市場有多大呢?例如去年有2000萬人總共花費54億美金在美容用品上,也就是平均每人消費250美金,而髮廊的消費則占了這個總額中的4億! 把這些數字進一步作分析,我們發現每8元中有5元是女性消費的;而消費總額的1/2是由19~35歲這個年齡層所消費的.最後一項,同時也是最讓人驚訝的統計結果是,十幾歲的少男少女每人每年的消費額竟然最高,金額高達323元,這是青年消費者的1.3倍!
